Is Where Winds Meet worth it? It costs nothing to try, so the real questions are whether you will enjoy it, whether you will feel pushed to pay, and whether your PC can run it. This page answers those with official data and Steam's review numbers rather than our opinion, so you can decide for yourself.

Last checked: October 10, 2026 (Version 2.2; Version 2.3 arrives on October 15).

What it costs

Where Winds Meet is free to play. The official store page puts it plainly: "No pay-to-win. Gameplay content is entirely free, with monetization limited to cosmetic items."

Spending is about appearance: cosmetic items, including Draw Sets (outfits you draw for) and Battle Pass outfits. For example, the official account announced a Draw Set called Veil of Lotus and a Battle Pass outfit called Scarlet Whispers, both arriving after the October 15 update. If you dislike any kind of draw, even for cosmetics only, keep that in mind.

What players say

On Steam, Where Winds Meet is rated Very Positive. When we checked on October 10, 2026:

  • All languages: 100,007 of 115,722 reviews were positive (86%).
  • English reviews: 55,701 of 64,289 were positive (87%).

These numbers change every day; the Steam store page shows the current rating.

What you get

The official description lists:

  • A large open world set in China's Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period, with rooftop parkour, riding the wind across long distances and fast travel between regions.
  • Wuxia combat with classic weapons such as the sword, spear, dual blades, rope dart, bow, fan and umbrella, and over 30 mystic arts. You can fight in melee, at range or by stealth.
  • 16 life systems, from crafting, architecture and astronomy to folk games, performance, medicine and healing.
  • Freedom with consequences: cause trouble and you face bounties, pursuit and even prison, or build your reputation as a hero.

It keeps growing. New versions arrived on July 23 (2.0), August 20 (2.1) and September 16 (2.2), and Version 2.3 brings the new region Qingzhou on October 15. Every version since January is on our update timeline, and the newest one on our Qingzhou page.

Solo or with others

You can play it either way. The official description promises a story-driven adventure with rich solo gameplay, co-op with up to four friends, guilds with guild wars, multiplayer dungeons and raids, and competitive duels. Our guide Is Where Winds Meet an MMO? explains how Solo Mode and Online Mode work.

Who it suits, and who it may not

It is a good match if you want to:

  • play a big free wuxia adventure on your own, and maybe with friends now and then;
  • try melee, ranged or stealth fighting with many weapon styles. While you learn to deflect, the Assist Deflection setting helps; more in our tips for new players;
  • play something that gets a new version about once a month.

Think twice if:

  • you avoid games with draws of any kind, even for cosmetics;
  • your internet is unreliable, since the official requirements list a broadband connection;
  • your drive is small: the game needs at least 130 GB.
