Where Winds Meet Umbrella Build

Where Winds Meet umbrella build for Version 2.2: the Everspring Umbrella and Rope Dart Inner Ways, stats, gear sets and tier list ratings, compared.

Umbrella damage builds in Where Winds Meet pair the Everspring Umbrella with the Unfettered Rope Dart: the Bamboocut - Dust path. This page compares the builds published for it and shows where they agree and where they differ. We have not tested these setups in the game ourselves; each source is named with its date.

Looking for a different umbrella? The Vernal Umbrella pairs with the Inkwell Fan in Silkbind - Jade (see our Silkbind - Jade PvP build), and the Soulshade Umbrella pairs with the Panacea Fan in the healer build.

Last checked: October 8, 2026. The last balance changes to this path came with Version 2.0 on July 23, 2026. Since then there have been two bug fixes, one for Guild Wars on August 2 and one for the Arena in Version 2.1, and the Version 2.2 patch notes do not mention the path. None of the three written builds below was updated after Version 2.2. The one in-game look at the build since then is Jet Bullet's video of September 30, 2026, recorded in the Russian version of the game.

How the two weapons work together

The guides describe the same basic loop:

  1. Rope dart first. Soul Sweep and the charged Piercing Dart stack Soul Loss on the target. At 7 stacks it becomes Soulbreak: the target takes more damage, and you gain Soul Return, which makes your Martial Art Skills cheaper. Burn and Bury, the rope dart's special skill, cashes in that state.
  2. Then the umbrella. Scarlet Spin throws your umbrella out and it flies back to you. Press the skill again as it returns for a Perfect Catch, which makes the next throw hit harder. With the Phantom Rally Inner Way, each Perfect Catch also makes your phantom umbrellas burst for area damage. Cyclone Waltz, the umbrella's special skill, pulls nearby enemies together, gives you Tenacity and can swap you to a phantom umbrella to reposition.
  3. Back to the rope dart when Fading Crimson, the umbrella's resource, runs low or Soul Return wears off.

Perfect Catch timing. Game8 says Scarlet Spin lights up when you can catch, and that the sound cue helps too. Winds Meet Guide calls the sound and the umbrella passing back through your character steadier cues than the icon, and warns that mashing the button hides the real timing.

Range matters. Stars Align, the set every source uses, adds damage against enemies more than 4 meters away (see Gear sets). Winds Meet Guide points out that the umbrella can use that bonus before the rope dart dives in.

A rotation from after Version 2.2. Jet Bullet's video description (September 30) lays out his loop: charge the rope dart until the debuff is full, back off to 9–10 meters, switch to the umbrella for Perfect Catch throws, then three instant charged umbrella attacks and Cyclone Waltz, and go back to the rope dart. The instant charged attacks match a Version 2.0 change: chaining Perfect Catches with Phantom Rally now stores casts of Dreamwrought Bubbles, the umbrella's charged heavy attack, that need no charging (see Official changes). None of the three written builds mentions this change.

Where Bamboocut - Dust ranks in Version 2.2

Tier listPublishedWhat it ratesBamboocut - Dust
NPC WaifuSeptember 19, 2026Damage in real boss fightsB
Game8September 3, 2026 (Version 2.1)PvES
Game8September 3, 2026 (Version 2.1)PvPA
OnKamiiSeptember 19, 2026 (Version 2.2, global server)High-rank 1v1 ArenaT1

For PvE the two lists split. NPC Waifu finds Dust's ranged damage steady, about the same as Bamboocut - Wind's (the Dual Blades path) and below the gauntlet and Heng Blade paths. He also points out that getting resources back from each thrown umbrella takes a well-timed key press, which is easy to miss on a laggy connection, and he does not expect a buff soon.

In PvP, OnKamii calls the mix of thrown umbrellas and rope dart annoying to fight. He says Version 2.0's Arena changes to the rope dart made it a little weaker, and he weighed T2 against T1 before placing it in T1. Every path side by side: Build Tier List and PvP Tier List.

Inner Ways

All three written builds agree on the Inner Ways:

Morale ChantMain pickMain pickMain pick
Phantom RallyMain pickMain pickMain pick
Towline SweepMain pickMain pickMain pick
Song of TangMain pickMain pickMain pick

Jet Bullet's in-game screens (September 30, Russian version) show Phantom Rally and an Inner Way that matches Morale Chant; he does not open the other two.

  • Phantom Rally drives the umbrella. Scarlet Spin summons phantom umbrellas, and a Perfect Catch makes all of them resonate for area damage. Game8 adds that the resonance applies Phantom Chime, which lowers the enemy's Physical Resistance.
  • Towline Sweep drives the rope dart. Game8 and Winds Meet Guide say it makes Piercing Dart stack Soul Loss faster and keeps Soulbreak and Soul Return up longer.
  • Morale Chant builds up a damage bonus over the whole fight, and Song of Tang rewards frequent Martial Art Skills with extra critical damage and a little life drain.
  • For PvP, Game8 swaps Song of Tang for Vital Leech, because in PvP you rarely get time for the rope dart's healing charge. ShutterGroove suggests Light Anew as a more aggressive PvP option: hitting three or more enemies stacks a slow and extra damage taken on them.
  • How current they are: Game8's build says it was updated for Version 1.7 (its latest changelog entry is June 16, 2026), and Winds Meet Guide says it was checked against the Version 1.7 changes on July 13. ShutterGroove's page was last updated on July 25, two days after Version 2.0, but it does not mention the Version 2.0 changes to Phantom Rally either.

Stats

Priorities. Game8 and Winds Meet Guide give the same order: Agility, then Min Physical Attack, Min Bamboocut Attack, Critical Rate and Max Bamboocut Attack. Game8 explains that Agility raises both Critical Rate and physical damage, and that the minimum attack stats lift the base damage of both weapons' skills. ShutterGroove gives no order, but notes that Agility and critical damage both pay off well for these two weapons.

Attunements (Game8, PvE). Physical or Formless Penetration on both weapons, the disc and the pendant, and Everspring Umbrella Martial Art Skill DMG Boost on the helmet, chestpiece, greaves and bracers. Game8 also lists a separate Arena attunement for each slot.

Gear sets

Game8, PvPStars AlignAgile Steps; Jade Embrace if you rely heavily on mobility
Winds Meet Guide (July 13)Stars AlignCalmwaters
ShutterGroove (July 25)Stars Align, its top pick; Swallowcall works but is usually worth lessJade Embrace, which it calls a great second set
Jet Bullet's gear (September 30 video)Stars Align, 4 of 4, on the umbrellaFlawless Defense, 4 of 4, shown on the helmet
  • Stars Align is the one set every source agrees on. It stacks when you hit two or more enemies at once, or a boss or a player, and the stacks raise your Martial Art Skill damage for a few seconds, with extra damage against enemies more than 4 meters away. Game8 points out that both weapons hit often and over an area, so the stacks are easy to keep up, and that the range bonus suits umbrella poking before the rope dart moves in.
  • Armor is where they differ. Calmwaters pays off Perfect Dodges, which this mobile build makes a lot of (Winds Meet Guide). Game8 offers Agile Steps if you are more comfortable parrying than dodging, and uses it for PvP. ShutterGroove picks Jade Embrace, which cuts the damage you take after you cover a long distance quickly; it says the umbrella's teleports trigger it often.
  • Jet Bullet plays in Russian, so we matched his set names to English ourselves. His umbrella's set has the same 4-piece effect as Stars Align. His armor set is the one the th.gl database calls Flawless Guardian; Game8 calls a set with the same effect Flawless Defense. His bow also carries Fletchlodge (2 of 2: +4.0% Precision Rate), which none of the written builds mention.

Mystic Arts

  • Game8 (September 3): for PvE, Flute of the Tides for area damage that moves with you, Dragon's Breath to apply Burn with Drunken Poet right after to turn it into burst damage, and Cloud Steps to engage or chase. For PvP: Serene Breeze, which it calls essential for breaking free of pressure and control, Wolflike Frenzy for burst with Super Armor, Meridian Touch to choke the opponent's Qi recovery, and Soaring Spin to close the gap and cut healing.
  • ShutterGroove (July 25): for PvE, Guardian Palm, Dragon's Breath and Flute of the Tides. For PvP: Leaping Toad to chase and cancel combos, Serene Breeze, and Lion's Roar for large fights such as Guild Wars.
  • Winds Meet Guide (July 13) has no Mystic Arts list, but suggests Cyclone Waltz or Flute of the Tides when enemies are grouped.

Official changes since July 2026

The Version 2.0 patch notes (first posted on Steam on July 22, 2026; these changes are in the July 23 section) changed the Bamboocut - Dust path:

  • Dreamwrought Bubbles, the Everspring Umbrella's charged heavy attack, deals 20% more damage to non-player enemies.
  • Phantom Rally: phantom umbrellas from Dreamwrought Bubbles can also trigger Resonance Damage.
  • Phantom Rally, Tier 1: when chained Perfect Catches give you Fragrant Song, you also get a stack of Fragrant Song - Delicate, which lets your next Dreamwrought Bubbles go off at once without charging (up to 4 stacks). The notes call it a viable ranged filler.

Under Arena changes, the same section:

  • made pressing Cyclone Waltz again while spinning deal one instant hit to nearby enemies, for faster follow-ups;
  • slightly increased Scarlet Spin's stagger when the catch is not a Perfect Catch;
  • made Burn and Bury, the Unfettered Rope Dart's special skill, unblockable, with a golden flash that warns opponents;
  • changed the Unfettered Rope Dart's Piercing Dart charge to grant Tenacity 0.5 seconds after you enter the charging stance, instead of at once.

The same section also fixed Scarlet Spin's Arena attunement effects, which had not been triggering properly. A later section of the same notes, dated August 2, fixed a Guild War issue where the Bamboocut - Dust path had a small chance of applying continuous Immobilize effects to enemy targets after death.

The Version 2.1 patch notes (first posted August 20, 2026) fixed a phantom umbrella from the Everspring Umbrella that could appear in the wrong place when used near the edge of the Arena. The other sections of the Version 2.0 and 2.1 notes, and the Version 2.2 patch notes (September 15, 2026), do not mention this path.
