As of July 2026 (Version 1.8), the strongest overall build in Where Winds Meet is Bellstrike–Umbra — Strategic Sword paired with Heaven Quake Spear — currently the only build rated top-tier in both PvE and PvP across the major community rankings. The classic Umbrella + Rope Dart build (Bamboocut–Dust) remains a T0 raid-damage pick, but it is no longer the undisputed king it was at the November 2025 launch. The official May 28, 2026 Path Balance patch reshuffled the mid-tiers too: Mo Blade's Thundercry Blade had its Physical Attack cap doubled and its Stonebreaker combo buffed by roughly 30%, lifting the tank build to T1, while the dedicated Healer (Soulshade Umbrella + Panacea Fan) gained enough sustain and damage support to outgrow its old niche-support label. Every placement below has been re-checked against the official patch notes and current third-party tier data.
Tier data last fully re-verified: July 8, 2026, against Version 1.8 "Companions Make Home", the official May 28, 2026 balance patch, and independent July 2026 weapon rankings. We re-check this list after each major version — see the change log below for what moved and why.

How We Rank Builds
Our tier list considers:
| Factor | Weight | Why It Matters |
|---|---|---|
| Damage Output | 30% | Raw DPS potential in optimal conditions |
| Ease of Use | 25% | How forgiving the build is for new players |
| Survivability | 20% | Can you stay alive while dealing damage? |
| Versatility | 15% | Performance across different content types |
| Gear Dependency | 10% | How much gear affects performance |
Placements are cross-checked against two kinds of evidence: official balance patch notes from NetEase (for what actually changed) and independent tier lists and community consensus (for how those changes play out in practice). Where the two disagree, we say so.
Tier Definitions:
- T0: Best in slot — no significant weaknesses
- T1: Excellent — minor weaknesses, still highly recommended
- T2: Good — viable for all content, some limitations
- T3: Situational — works but requires more effort or specific conditions
What Changed Since November 2025
Five major versions shipped between this list's first edition and today — 1.2 (January), 1.4 (March), 1.6 (April), 1.7 (June), and 1.8 (June 25). Full version details are in our 2026 Update Timeline. For builds specifically, three things matter:
- The May 28, 2026 "Path Balance" patch is the single biggest ranking driver. It buffed Mo Blade (Thundercry Blade Physical Attack cap 60 → 120, Stonebreaker damage +30% with a new AoE hit), buffed the Healer kit (Soulshade Umbrella's Floating Grace reaches a 24% damage boost with Panacea Fan equipped; Restoring Blossom durations roughly doubled), buffed Bellstrike–Umbra's damage-over-time engine (18% Affinity damage boost on DoT settlement), and nerfed Stormbreaker Spear (Storm Roar vertical range reduced).
- Arena PvP was systematically tamed. Stamina-reduction effects are now capped at 40%, execute survivors gain brief control immunity and super armor, and hit-escape timing was equalized across network latency. Pure one-shot burst is less oppressive than it was at launch, which narrows the gap between burst and sustain builds in PvP.
- January 2026 community reports point to PvP-side nerfs for Dual Blades Inner Ways (Break Point, Vendetta), partially offset by PvE-side buffs in May (light attacks +10% HP damage against non-player targets). Dual Blades is still the premier high-APM melee pick, but it no longer stands alone at the top of PvE.
One thing that did not change combat rankings: Version 1.6's Idle Wind Mystic Skill is a traversal tool (it lets you travel as a gust of wind). It is a big quality-of-life gain for exploration-focused characters but has no meaningful effect on combat tier placements.
PvE Tier List
T0 — The Best PvE Builds
| Build | Path | Playstyle | Why T0? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Strategic Sword + Heaven Quake Spear | Bellstrike–Umbra | Bleed burst combos | Buffed DoT engine (May 2026) + top-tier in independent July rankings. The current overall #1. |
| Umbrella + Rope Dart | Bamboocut–Dust | Ranged burst DPS | Still elite raid damage with safe ranged gameplay — but the throne is now shared. |
Strategic Sword + Heaven Quake Spear — The New Overall King
Bellstrike–Umbra has climbed from a strong-but-fiddly bleed build at launch to the consensus best build in the game as of July 2026. The core loop is unchanged — stack bleeds with Strategic Sword, detonate them for burst, and let Heaven Quake Spear (official name "Heavenquaker Spear") cover crowds while building additional stacks — but the May 28, 2026 balance patch handed it a direct engine upgrade: damage-over-time settlement now grants an 18% Affinity damage boost, and its Insightful Strike Inner Way gained HP-ratio scaling plus a further 10% DoT boost at Tier 6. Independent July 2026 weapon rankings place Strategic Sword as the single strongest weapon in the game for both PvE and PvP. The one caveat: at very high Inner Ways investment, pure-PvE damage races can tilt back toward Nameless Sword. For everyone short of that ceiling, this is the build to beat.
Best for: Players who enjoy calculated, rhythm-based combat and want one build that clears everything.

Umbrella + Rope Dart — Still the Ranged Raid Standard
The launch-era PvE king is still T0, and the reason hasn't changed: safe ranged gameplay that deals top-of-the-meter raid damage, with the Perfect Catch timing mechanic rewarding practice. What has changed is the competition. The May 2026 patch gave the pairing (officially Everspring Umbrella + Unfettered Rope Dart on the Bamboocut–Dust path) a mixed bag — stronger stagger on Cyclone Waltz and up to a 12% damage boost on umbrella returns, but faster stamina drain while charging the rope dart. That leaves it roughly where it was, while Bellstrike–Umbra moved up past it. If you want maximum raid damage from range, this is still the pick; if you want the strongest all-content build, it no longer has the crown to itself.
Best for: Players who want maximum raid damage from a safe distance and don't mind mastering Perfect Catch timing.

T1 — Excellent PvE Builds
| Build | Path | Playstyle | Why T1? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dual Blades | Bamboocut–Wind | High-speed burst DPS | Still the premier high-APM melee build; no longer clearly above the sword builds. |
| Nameless Sword | Bellstrike–Splendor | Balanced sword combat | Most beginner-friendly build; can out-damage Strategic Sword at extreme Inner Ways investment. |
| Heaven Quake Spear | Bellstrike–Umbra (spear focus) | Sustained charged attacks | Reliable, consistent damage with a simple rotation. |
| Mo Blade | Stonesplit–Might | Tanky DPS | ⬆ Promoted from T2 — May 2026 doubled its Physical Attack cap and buffed Stonebreaker ~30%. |
| Healer | Silkbind–Deluge | Support / sustain | ⬆ Promoted from T2 — May 2026 sustain buffs; elite in group content. |
| Twin Blades (Stonesplit–Strength) | Stonesplit–Strength | Heavy blade pressure | ✚ Newly ranked — May 2026 gave it guaranteed-crit thresholds and large damage riders. |
Dual Blades — The Melee Speedster (T0 → T1)
Dual Blades is still the fastest, flashiest melee build in the game, and its PvE side even got small buffs in May 2026 (light attacks deal 10% extra HP-based damage against non-player targets; the Samsara window on Echoes of Oblivion stretched from 10 to 15 seconds). So why the demotion? Because T0 is comparative: January 2026 community reports flagged nerfs to its Break Point and Vendetta Inner Ways, and July 2026 weapon rankings now place Infernal Twinblades a clear step below Strategic Sword. The build's core appeal is intact — extreme mobility, multi-hit combos, big Frenzy burst windows — but "highest single-target melee damage" is no longer an uncontested claim.
Best for: Players who love fast-paced melee combat and high APM gameplay.

Nameless Sword — The Best Starter Build
Still the most balanced and forgiving build in the game, and still top-tier in July 2026 rankings:
- Strong in both PvE and PvP
- Parry-focused gameplay rewards skill
- At very high Inner Ways investment, it can overtake Strategic Sword in pure PvE damage
- May 2026 note: its Qi Damage boost is now capped at 20%, a mild ceiling on one scaling path
Best for: Brand new players or those who want versatility.
→ Full Nameless Sword Build Guide
Heaven Quake Spear — The Reliable Carry
Pure Spear offers stable, consistent damage without complex mechanics:
- High-multiplier charged attacks with a simple rotation
- Low execution requirements — great for learning boss patterns
- Pairs naturally with Strategic Sword if you later migrate toward Bellstrike–Umbra
Best for: New players who want a straightforward path to success.

Mo Blade — The Immortal Tank (T2 → T1)
The May 28, 2026 patch was Mo Blade's moment. Thundercry Blade's maximum Physical Attack bonus doubled from 60 to 120 points, the Stonebreaker heavy combo gained an AoE ground-smash and roughly 30% more total damage, and the Art of Resistance Inner Way's shield-linked damage and healing boosts more than doubled. The result is the same unkillable frontline profile — highest defense and HP among the DPS-capable builds — with a damage ceiling that no longer feels like a tax. One caveat carried over from the same patch: its partner weapon Stormbreaker Spear lost vertical range on Storm Roar, so the pairing leans even more on the blade.
Best for: Players who hate dying or want to tank in groups.
Healer — No Longer Just a Support Tax (T2 → T1)
The only dedicated healing build in the game got real May 2026 buffs: Soulshade Umbrella's Floating Grace now reaches a 24% damage boost when Panacea Fan is equipped, and the Restoring Blossom Inner Way's effect durations roughly doubled. Independent July 2026 rankings put Panacea Fan in the top weapon tier. It remains weak solo — that hasn't changed — but in group content it is now closer to a second damage contributor that also keeps the team alive.
Best for: Support players who enjoy keeping teams alive.
Twin Blades, Stonesplit–Strength — Newly Ranked
This path (Snowparting Blade + Phalanxbane Blade) wasn't ranked in our launch edition. The May 2026 patch makes it hard to ignore: Steadfast Devotion now guarantees critical hits at 70% Critical Rate at Tier 3 and adds 32% extra damage to Stage 3 Burning Heart against non-player targets, while both blades gained Tenacity riders and better combo flow. We're placing it T1 on official-patch evidence plus early community results; we'll revisit once there's a longer track record. No dedicated build guide on this site yet.
T2 — Good PvE Builds
| Build | Path | Playstyle | Why T2? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vernal Umbrella + Inkwell Fan | Silkbind–Jade | Ranged control | ✚ Newly ranked for PvE — May 2026 added big damage riders against non-player enemies, but weapon-level rankings remain modest. |
Silkbind–Jade in PvE — Buffed, but Prove-It Tier
The May 2026 patch clearly wanted this control-focused pairing to do more PvE work: Vernal Umbrella gained 15% bonus damage against non-player targets, and Inkwell Fan's Forsaken Fame deals 45% extra damage with stamina recovery against non-player enemies. Those are large numbers on paper. Independent rankings, however, still place both weapons near the bottom of the July 2026 weapon table, citing effects that enemies can resist and slow frame data. We rank it T2: genuinely viable for all PvE content after the buffs, not yet proven beyond that.
PvP Tier List
PvP has a different meta than PvE — and the May 2026 Arena changes (stamina-reduction cap, execute-survivor protection, latency equalization) deliberately narrowed the gap between burst and sustain builds. Here's how builds stack up now:
T0 — Dominant PvP Builds
| Build | Path | Why T0? |
|---|---|---|
| Bellstrike–Splendor | Nameless Sword + Nameless Spear | Burst damage and mobility; still the duel standard, though execute-protection changes trimmed its one-shot ceiling. |
| Bamboocut–Wind | Infernal Twinblades + Mortal Rope Dart | Extreme mobility and multi-hit burst. January Inner Way nerfs stung, but it remains the assassin pick. |
| Bellstrike–Umbra | Strategic Sword + Heaven Quake Spear | ⬆ Back from the November bleed-nerf exile — DoT buffs restored its kill pressure; now top-rated in both modes. |
→ Full PvP Tier List & Build Details
T1 — Strong PvP Builds
| Build | Path | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Stonesplit–Might | Mo Blade + Stormbreaker Spear | Tankier than ever after May buffs, but Stormbreaker's range nerf trims its poke; kill pressure still modest. |
T2 — Situational PvP Builds
| Build | Path | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Silkbind–Jade | Vernal Umbrella + Inkwell Fan | ⬇ Demoted from T0 — its May buffs apply against non-player targets only, and Inkwell Fan's slow frame data makes it parry bait in current PvP. |
| Silkbind–Deluge | Soulshade Umbrella + Panacea Fan | Support role only; needs a team to be effective. |
Build Comparison Table

Which Build Should You Choose?
By Playstyle
"I want the strongest overall build" → Strategic Sword + Heaven Quake Spear
"I want to deal huge damage from melee" → Dual Blades
"I'm new and want something forgiving" → Nameless Sword or Heaven Quake Spear
"I want to stay at range and be safe" → Umbrella + Rope Dart
"I hate dying" → Mo Blade
"I want to support my team" → Healer
"I mainly play PvP" → PvP Tier List
By Experience Level
| Experience | Recommended Build | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Brand New | Nameless Sword | Balanced, forgiving, teaches core mechanics |
| Some ARPG Experience | Heaven Quake Spear | Simple rotation, reliable damage |
| Experienced Gamer | Strategic Sword + Heaven Quake Spear | The current #1, with a real skill ceiling |
| MMO Veteran | Healer | Familiar support role — and it actually deals damage now |
Can I Switch Later?
Yes, but budget for it. Where Winds Meet allows you to level multiple weapon masteries, but Inner Ways points and Mental Methods are effectively per-build investments — they don't transfer between weapons. Switching mains means weeks of re-farming, not a respec button.
Our recommendation: Start with Nameless Sword or Heaven Quake Spear to learn the game, then transition to a higher-ceiling build once you're comfortable.

Tier List Changes & Updates
We update this tier list after each major version. Here's what changed and why:
July 2026 Re-Verification (Version 1.8 era)

|---|---|
| Bellstrike–Umbra → T0 PvE and PvP | May 28 official DoT buffs (18% Affinity boost on settlement) + consensus #1 in July 2026 independent rankings |
| Umbrella + Rope Dart: T0, but no longer sole #1 | Mixed May balance changes; overtaken as overall pick |
| Dual Blades → T1 PvE (from T0) | January Inner Way nerfs (community-reported) + July rankings place Twinblades below Strategic Sword |
| Mo Blade → T1 PvE (from T2) | Official May buffs: Physical Attack cap 60→120, Stonebreaker +30% with AoE |
| Healer → T1 PvE (from T2) | Official May buffs: Floating Grace 24% with Panacea Fan, Restoring Blossom durations doubled |

| Stonesplit–Strength newly ranked T1 PvE | Official May buffs (guaranteed crits at 70% Crit Rate, +32% Burning Heart damage) |
| Naming aligned to official patch notes | Path pairings now use official weapon names (e.g., Silkbind–Jade = Vernal Umbrella + Inkwell Fan); removed the incorrect "Ninefold Umbrella" label used in earlier editions |
November 2025 (Global Launch)
| Change | Details |
|---|---|
| Dual Blades → T0 | Light attack and Special Skill received +12% HP damage buff |
| Dragon Rider Return → T0 Strange Art | Dragon's Breath + Drunken Moon combo nerfed 40% |

Final Thoughts
There's no single "best" build in Where Winds Meet — only the best build for you.
Quick summary as of July 2026:
- Strongest overall: Strategic Sword + Heaven Quake Spear (Bellstrike–Umbra)
- Maximum ranged raid damage: Umbrella + Rope Dart
- Fastest melee: Dual Blades
- Beginner-friendly: Nameless Sword or Heaven Quake Spear
- Unkillable tank: Mo Blade — meaningfully stronger since May 2026
- Team support: Healer — now a real damage contributor too
Every build is viable for all content. Choose based on what you enjoy, not just what's "meta."
The best build is the one you'll actually play. Pick what feels fun, master it, and you'll succeed.
Good luck finding your path, wanderer.
